Portals Nous

Some beaches in Mallorca are easy to spot from the main road — and then there’s Platja de s’Oratori, the beautiful hidden beach of Portals Nous. The first time we went, we actually walked past the entrance twice before finding the little path leading down toward the ocean. But that’s part of the charm here: once you know how to get there, it feels like you’re in on a secret.

A SECLUDED BEACH YOU WON´T FIND UNLESS YOU KNOW WHERE TO LOOK

The beach stretches about 200 meters, with one half soft golden sand and the other a mix of stones and sand. There’s room for everyone — families on towels, sunseekers on rented sunbeds with umbrellas, and water lovers heading out on pedalos or paddleboards. It’s calm, beautiful, and wonderfully tucked away from the traffic above.

What we love most is how sheltered it feels. Even on a busy summer day, Platja de s’Oratori keeps a relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to stay just a little longer.

HOW TO GET TO THIS HIDDEN BEACH IN PORTAL NOUS

Platja de s’Oratori lies about 11 km southwest of Palma, in the stylish Portals area. It’s easiest to reach by car or vespa, especially if you want the flexibility to explore the surrounding coastline. From Ocho Suites, it´s approx 15 minutes by car. But the parkingspaces are very limited. It´s better to take a taxi.

If you take the bus, make sure to choose the red/yellow TIB line from Plaça España, since Portals belongs to Calvià municipality, not Palma. From the bus stop, you’ll walk downhill toward the harbor and continue past the marina until you reach the beach. It’s not difficult — just give yourself a little time.

There’s also a more adventurous route: walking through the cemetery above the beach. It’s a bit tricky, but the view you get on the way down is absolutely worth it.

Right next to the beach sits the famous Puerto Portals, home to some of the most luxurious yachts on the island and a long row of chic cafés, boutiques, and restaurants. Despite its glamorous surroundings, the beach itself is wonderfully relaxed and completely family-friendly, with car-free areas perfect for small children.

WE RECOMMEND

Bring your snorkeling gear and swim out to the small island just offshore — the water is usually very clear, and it’s a beautiful spot for a short adventure.

At the far end of the beach, you’ll find Roxy Beach, a laid-back beach bar with good food and an even better atmosphere. In the middle of the beach, there’s a small kiosk for snacks, cold drinks, and essentials.
