Mallorca isn’t just a stunning island — it’s a sailing haven, and there is no better place to experience this than in Puerto Portals, one of the Mediterranean’s premier marinas. A WINTER SAILING TRADITION
The Dragon Winter Series is more than just a regatta; it’s a winter sailing tradition in Puerto Portals. This event, which runs from November to February, brings together top national and international sailors to compete in a classic sailing regatta with the iconic Dragon monotype boats.
Over the course of the series, competitors experience the thrill of racing on the Mediterranean, surrounded by beautiful views and the refreshing winter sea air. The Dragon boats are designed for speed, precision, and grace—perfect for the competitive sailors who take part in this prestigious event.
WHAT´S ALL THE HYPE ABOUT THE DRAGON?
You might be wondering, what exactly is a "Dragon"?
Relax, it is not a fire-breathing mythical creature, but rather a beautiful and historic sailing boat with a rich legacy.
The Dragon was designed in 1929 by Johan Anker, Norway’s foremost designer of racing yachts. This elegant boat quickly gained recognition and, by 1948, was made an Olympic class, where it remained until 1972.
So why the name "Dragon"? Well, it’s a nod to the boat’s proud, fierce legacy on the water, but there's nothing to fear here—just smooth sailing and competitive fun.
PUERTO PORTALS - A SAILING HUB
Puerto Portals has become the largest fleet of Dragons in Spain and a benchmark on the international circuit. The marina has firmly established itself as a hub for classic sailing enthusiasts, and it’s easy to see why. The charm of the Mediterranean, combined with the exceptional facilities of the port, make Puerto Portals the ideal place for such a distinguished regatta.
With around 1 500 active Dragon boats across more than 26 countries, the Dragon class continues to thrive. Germany leads the pack with the largest number of boats, but Puerto Portals’ fleet is unmatched in Spain, making it a prime location for both sailors and spectators.
