PORTIXOL PERFECTION

At Ocho Suites, we love to share our top boutique hotel picks on the island. For a stylish seaside escape, Hotel Portixol in Palma’s El Molinar harbor offers an elegant, quietly iconic boutique experience by the Mediterranean. Originally built in the 1950s and transformed by its Swedish owners Mikael and Johanna Landström in 1999, the hotel perfectly captures the blend of Scandinavian simplicity and Mediterranean warmth that defines their work — they’re also the visionaries behind Hotel Espléndido in Port de Sóller and the Palma Sport & Tennis Club in Santa Catalina.

From the outside, Portixol’s crisp white façade and deep blue shutters give it a distinct nautical charm. Inside, the design is clean, bright, and timeless — dark wood-paneled corridors, mosaic pillars, and subtle maritime details create a sense of understated sophistication. It feels like stepping aboard a beautifully designed yacht, anchored permanently to the rhythm of the harbor.

With just 25 rooms, including a rooftop attic suite and a separate Port House, the hotel feels both intimate and exclusive. Many rooms have private balconies overlooking the marina or the open sea, and all feature elegant Scandinavian furnishings, DUX beds, and thoughtful touches that make your stay deeply comfortable.

The restaurant and bar are a highlight, loved by locals and travelers alike. The bright sunny terrace overlooking the water is the perfect setting for long, laid-back lunches or sunset dinners. The menu focuses on fresh Mediterranean flavors — simply grilled fish, vibrant salads, and seasonal dishes that celebrate the best of the island’s produce. This is one of our favorite spots for a spring lunch with friends — it never disappoints.

Beyond the hotel, the Portixol neighborhood adds to its charm: a peaceful seaside promenade lined with cafés, cyclists, and locals out for a stroll. It’s just a short walk or bike ride from Palma’s old town, making Portixol the perfect base for those who want both tranquility and easy access to the city.

Hotel Portixol is the kind of place that keeps people coming back year after year — elegant, relaxed, and effortlessly stylish. It captures everything we love about Mallorca: seaside living, good food, and genuine warmth wrapped in timeless design.
